According to the International Forum on Globalization, Charles and David Koch are America’s single largest source of private money for attacks against environmental protections. They have spent over $643 million to block or rollback legal protections for clean air, clean energy, clean water, and other environmental issues through sketchy scientific research, lobbying lawmakers, contributing to electoral candidates’ campaigns, media manipulation, etc. Source: kochcash
Petroleum coke (a byproduct of tar sands refining) has been irritating numerous residents in both Chicago and Detroit. A routine aerial inspection found Koch Pipeline Co. spilled 400 gallons of crude oil in Texas in late October, 2013.
Environmental Charges Against Koch
November, 2014: the city of North Pole, Alaska filed suit against refinery owner Flint Hills Alaska Resources: “During the times that the defendants owned or operated the refinery, the defendants caused or allowed numerous and/or continuous releases of hazardous substances into the groundwater located beneath the refinery, and failed to contain or remediate the hazardous substances,” the lawsuit states. “Ultimately, these hazardous substances have migrated off the refinery property and have contaminated the groundwater down gradient of the refinery and within the city, including wells owned by the city and supplying drinking water to the city’s inhabitants. The presence of sulfolane contamination in the city’s groundwater has rendered that groundwater unfit for human consumption and endangers the public health or welfare, or fish, animals, vegetation or any other part of the natural habitat in which it is found,” the lawsuit states. Source: newsminer.com
December 2006: Flint Hill Resources fined nearly $16,000 by the EPA for 10 separate violations of the Clean Air Act at its Alaska oil refinery facilities, and required to spend another $60,000 on safety equipment needed to help prevent future violations. yosemite.epa.gov
May 2001: Koch Industries paid $25 million to the federal government to settle the federal lawsuit that found the company had improperly taken more oil than it had paid for from federal and Indian land. A federal jury found that Koch Industries had stolen oil from government and American Indian lands and had lied about its purchases more than 24,000 times. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries
September 2000: A federal grand jury in Corpus Christi, Texas returned a 97-count indictment against Koch Industries Inc., Koch Petroleum Group for violating federal clean air and hazardous waste laws, due to the release of at least 91 metric tons of uncontrolled, untreated carcinogenic benzene. In April 2001, the company reached a $20 million settlement in exchange for admitting to covering up environmental violations at its refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Source: justice.gov
March 2000: Koch petroleum which operates a refinery in Rosemount, Minn., was sentenced to pay a $6 million criminal fine and pay an additional $2 million in remediation costs. This is the largest federal environmental fine ever paid in Minnesota. Koch admitted that it negligently discharged 200,000 – 600,000 gallons of aviation fuel into a wetland and an adjoining waterway. In addition, their way of recovering the fuel (a year and a half later) destroyed a portion of the surrounding ecosystem and wildlife habitat. In a separate offense, Koch dumped a million gallons of wastewater with high ammonia content on the ground between November 1996 and March 1997 and also increased its flow of wastewater into the Mississippi River on weekends when no one monitored discharges. These actions allowed Koch to circumvent the weekly monitoring and reporting requirements of its wastewater discharge permit. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and was prosecuted by the U. S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota. January 2000: Koch Pipeline agreed to a $35 million settlement with the U.S. Justice Department and the State of Texas as fines for the firm’s three hundred oil spills (300 million gallons) in Texas and five other states going back to 1990. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries
August 1996: Koch’s Sterling butane pipeline had a leak in Lively, Texas, on August 24, 1996. Two teenagers on the way to report the leak drove into the unseen butane cloud, and were killed when the gas exploded and burned. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded that severe external pipeline corrosion was the cause of the failure. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries

Koch Brothers Oppose Electric Cars
This report from the show The Young Turks explains that the Koch Brothers are backing a new organization trying to stop the rising tide of electric vehicle adoption. This would hurt petroleum producers like the Koch Brothers. The group is likely to run ads attacking the subsidies given to electric cars.

I am very consciously boycotting any of these products and will forward this to friends. What arrogance surrounds them.
What greed surrounds them and they only want more and more. We need to be very determined in our efforts to go against their money in this election.

It always amazes me when people come back with comments about George Soros… What they don’t seem to think about is, what are the Kochs vs. Soros fighting for? Soros… fighting for fairness and protecting our precious resources and us little folks. Koch Bros. fight to get rid of any regulatory obstacle to them destroying the land, polluting the air and water, abusing employees by taking away any worker rights protection so in their perfect world, we will all basically be day-laborers with low wage, no healthcare, no rights and no way to fight back.
WAKE UP RIGHT-WINGERS! PLEASE! You are being told to be scared of socialism and it’s all a mind-f*ck! Left-wingers are fighting for workers’ rights. Unless you are making over $250,000 a year, you SHOULD BE fighting with us! This isn’t about socialism. But, as long as Rush, Glen and all these other MILLIONAIRES keep getting you to believe it is, they can keep you from fighting for your own interests! They are laughing all the way to the bank. I know you have your pride to keep you from wanting to see that maybe they’ve pulled the wool over your eyes. It’s human nature to want to deny that, and call the other side crazy. However, which would be better? To just be honest with yourself and stop drinking their koolaid, or to continue letting them get you to vote AGAINST your best interest? Please, I beg of you, stop listening to these liars. And, they ARE liars. It is easily proven. The irony is that what these greedy bastards fight for is against THEIR best interests! It’s unsustainable. If the economy collapses, they can’t eat their gold… and they will not survive the toxic water, air and food that their greed created.
If I’m wrong, and you’re right, the worst that happens is we end up with a socialistic society where everybody gets a fair shake but the rich can’t get quite as rich. But, if I’m right and you’re wrong, we will all die because they are poisoning clean water supplies from fracking, the food with GMOs, our air and water through mass production of unnecessary chemicals, and the effects of global warming, not to mention that, in the meantime, our economy will collapse because they have TAKEN from the bottom as much as possible and they can’t keep cutting jobs and wages without shoring up that base. It is unsustainable. We could survive with an economic collapse, we might survive GMOs (with a shortened lifespan), BUT we CANNOT survive without clean water! I am 51 and just this summer know of at least 10 people in my age group who have died or are dying of cancer. We’ve got to stop allowing the massive chemical pollution/destruction of our food, water, land, air before we all perish.
Jimm says
I have read from all of the people who call themselves Americans who support the Koch Brothers efforts to destroy this country and what it stands for. You are the same people who have gotten rich by climbing on the backs of others all the while stuffing your pockets along the way. If you do not care about the enviorment, your childrens future or the country then please leave, no one wants you here. You may find yourself hunted one day.
Alan says
What is exactly wrong with what the brothers are doing? I think they are providing plenty of Domestic jobs and want to provide more. Why are you trying to destroy them? Last time I checked, making a profit was not a crime. Do you really want the brothers to take their companies over seas? along with their jobs? Do you want to buy Chinese products instead of theirs?

I recently watched two documentaries on the Koch brothers’; what a shame that they can continue to pollute our politicans, people, and worst of all our enviroment, all in the name of the almighty dollar and Americans for Prosperity.
The Koch’s and those who share their views are actually promoting socialism; think about it…they do it in such a round-about-way that it’s not going to be seen until it is finally achieved. How much power, money and control do corporations need in this country? We all are free tto earn and achieve all that we want, but at the expense of the enviroment and people, no, it is not our right or earned privilage. They have no concept of what it like to live within,or below ones means. If the brother’s had any empathy or even sympathy they might not be so agressive in their agenda. I intend to boycott all their products, but for sure something will get in through the back door, they own and control SO MUCH of what we need and use in our daily lives. Such a shame, such a waste of what could really be accomplished with such riches.

For most people this is a battle of ideologies, i.e. if you make a ton of money and vote Republican you MUST be for America. If you’re suffering with medical conditions, low pay (or no pay), increasing taxes, rising prices, etc. and you just want a fair shake you MUST be some sort of Commie! Alas, in fact it is just the opposite. There is nothing more Fascist than removing from the public their protection under the law as pertains to healthcare, working conditions, price-fixing, unethical financial dealings, etc. You can call the head of the country whatever you want but if the government devolves into just a bunch of Yes-Men bowing to the power of the sacred American DOLLAR than you end up with a despot.

This is for the clever folks who want to buy Koch’s products to support them. David Koch ran for VP on the Libertarian ticket in 1980, far-right of Reagan. The Party platform was to ABOLISH Social Security, welfare, the CIA, the FBI, and the public school system.
Did you know the Koch’s have donated millions to get a Republican in the White House and EVEN MORE to elect Romney?
Did you know the Koch money backs candidates like Boehner, Ryan, and Cantor?
Did you know R&R wanting to privatize Social Security will ABOLISH it, as we know it? Even though, today it is solvent until 2037?
Social Security was meant to be a guaranteed retirement income for seniors. Let’s keep it that way, and keep the Koch’s out of the White House (via Romney).

The declaration of these Trusts and special interests moneys is worthy of inspection. Kock Trust is not even in the top 100 of United States IRS hiding Wealth from government Trust. Minnow in comparison. The top Ten Trusts loose misplaces more money than this paltry trust spends each year.

These Brothers and their associates have too much power. Their money has helped paralyze congress, suppress voter rights, infiltrate US Supreme court decisions and engage corporate legislation which has subjected the intent of the electorate null and void.
The Koch Brothers and their corporate accomplices should be restricted to the business of doing business, which is supplying goods and services, and let the legislators do their duty of serving the people and the Country.

I think the Koch Brothers are some of the most immoral people in the world. The problem, there so many more of the same type. Romney and this type of greed are hoping to run our country. If so, they will turn America into a country of demoralized extreme poor who are at the mercy of the very rich. I told my family long ago that Reagan’s policies were the beginning of a country of have and have not (masters and slaves). I believe this more than ever before. I am retired and pay taxes. I know many people that worked many years and lost everything due to the wealth of those who think they are our saviors. Don’t preach religious belief when greed and resentment toward the less fortunate are your platform. Koch Brothers and others of your greedy group are everything a FREE world despises.

You might want to be big, and clean up pollution with all your money. And Become known for good. I sure would not want to be you when you meet God , i am so happy to be me. List of Geo-Pac products contained 3 items I’ve purchased in the past, but will never buy again. There are many far superior products on the market. Angel Soft feels like the old Sears catalog used in out houses years ago. There’s nothing great about Sparkle paper towels, either. After trying them once, I thought store brands were better. Don’t see anything I’ll be missing.

The Koch brothers are trying anything to send Romney into the White House. For the past four years, they have fed lies to the American public, put restraining forces into the Congress and tried to sabotage policies of the administration.
If you do not want to be an accomplice, vote for Obama. He may not have done a great job at the economy (nobody could, given the dire state of what it was four years ago), he has integrity and a good heart, which the other side doesn’t have.
Do not vote for short-term gains, we all have to pay a much heavier price later and this will affect not only you and I, but also our next generations.
