Gourd kerosene Lamp.
This lamp was made from the parts of nine different gourds. The oil font was made with a “canteen gourd,” and the chimney was made with two “people gourds”. The oil filler cap and the wick raiser were made with jewelry gourds. There are four windows on the oil font that represent a continuing desert scene of cacti, a jack rabbit, a coyote, rocks, and mountains, etc. By Earl Worick, the “Gourd Guy” of Virginia.

The shade is carved from a large, thick canteen gourd and the outside is painted while the underside of the shade is gilt in 24k gold leaf. The trunk of the tree lamp is made from the handle of a dipper gourd and covered in textured acrylic paint to give it the appearance of bark.
