I was a stone mason for 25 years and miss the work. I was taught by an old German stone mason and it became artwork for me. I’ve done a lot of custom work in Utah, Colorado and Arizona. Your examples here are much like my own. Excellent. Makes me wish I could still do the work.

In 1965, my dad wanted a fireplace in the family room that was faced with rock from the local creeks. Our brick layer that did the outside of the house, said he would not do it and it could not be done. So my dad being an ironworker said that was ok. he would do it. And he did. It was beautiful. with cathedral ceilings.

Extremely cool. makes me think of the fireplace in Filberg Lodge in Courtenay, British Colombia. It incoperates small cannonballs from the naval base across the water, a fossil bone, and a stone with a 2000 year old petroglyph. Very cool.
Note to historians the fossil and petroglyph were picked up before WWII and laws preventing their removal.
