The refineries produce a wide range of transportation fuels for motorists, truckers and the airline industry. In the olefins plants, the company processes natural gas liquids into ethylene and propylene. In the polymers plants, those two products are processed into various forms of olypropylene, which are key ingredients in products such as consumer and healthcare products, packaging and other plastic products. According to the International Forum on Globalization, Charles and David Koch are America’s single largest source of private money for attacks against environmental protections. They have spent over $643 million to block or rollback legal protections for clean air, clean energy, clean water, and other environmental issues through sketchy scientific research, lobbying lawmakers, contributing to electoral candidates’ campaigns, media manipulation, etc. Source: kochcash
Petroleum coke (a byproduct of tar sands refining) has been irritating numerous residents in both Chicago and Detroit. A routine aerial inspection found Koch Pipeline Co. spilled 400 gallons of crude oil in Texas in late October, 2013.
Environmental Charges Against Koch
November, 2014: the city of North Pole, Alaska filed suit against refinery owner Flint Hills Alaska Resources: “During the times that the defendants owned or operated the refinery, the defendants caused or allowed numerous and/or continuous releases of hazardous substances into the groundwater located beneath the refinery, and failed to contain or remediate the hazardous substances,” the lawsuit states. “Ultimately, these hazardous substances have migrated off the refinery property and have contaminated the groundwater down gradient of the refinery and within the city, including wells owned by the city and supplying drinking water to the city’s inhabitants. The presence of sulfolane contamination in the city’s groundwater has rendered that groundwater unfit for human consumption and endangers the public health or welfare, or fish, animals, vegetation or any other part of the natural habitat in which it is found,” the lawsuit states. Source: newsminer.com
December 2006: Flint Hill Resources fined nearly $16,000 by the EPA for 10 separate violations of the Clean Air Act at its Alaska oil refinery facilities, and required to spend another $60,000 on safety equipment needed to help prevent future violations. yosemite.epa.gov
May 2001: Koch Industries paid $25 million to the federal government to settle the federal lawsuit that found the company had improperly taken more oil than it had paid for from federal and Indian land. A federal jury found that Koch Industries had stolen oil from government and American Indian lands and had lied about its purchases more than 24,000 times. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries
September 2000: A federal grand jury in Corpus Christi, Texas returned a 97-count indictment against Koch Industries Inc., Koch Petroleum Group for violating federal clean air and hazardous waste laws, due to the release of at least 91 metric tons of uncontrolled, untreated carcinogenic benzene. In April 2001, the company reached a $20 million settlement in exchange for admitting to covering up environmental violations at its refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Source: justice.gov
March 2000: Koch petroleum which operates a refinery in Rosemount, Minn., was sentenced to pay a $6 million criminal fine and pay an additional $2 million in remediation costs. This is the largest federal environmental fine ever paid in Minnesota. Koch admitted that it negligently discharged 200,000 – 600,000 gallons of aviation fuel into a wetland and an adjoining waterway. In addition, their way of recovering the fuel (a year and a half later) destroyed a portion of the surrounding ecosystem and wildlife habitat. In a separate offense, Koch dumped a million gallons of wastewater with high ammonia content on the ground between November 1996 and March 1997 and also increased its flow of wastewater into the Mississippi River on weekends when no one monitored discharges. These actions allowed Koch to circumvent the weekly monitoring and reporting requirements of its wastewater discharge permit. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and was prosecuted by the U. S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota. January 2000: Koch Pipeline agreed to a $35 million settlement with the U.S. Justice Department and the State of Texas as fines for the firm’s three hundred oil spills (300 million gallons) in Texas and five other states going back to 1990. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries
August 1996: Koch’s Sterling butane pipeline had a leak in Lively, Texas, on August 24, 1996. Two teenagers on the way to report the leak drove into the unseen butane cloud, and were killed when the gas exploded and burned. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded that severe external pipeline corrosion was the cause of the failure. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries

Koch Brothers Oppose Electric Cars
This report from the show The Young Turks explains that the Koch Brothers are backing a new organization trying to stop the rising tide of electric vehicle adoption. This would hurt petroleum producers like the Koch Brothers. The group is likely to run ads attacking the subsidies given to electric cars.
Grandma Anne says
I am happy to see that I have only purchased the Vanity napkins in my lifetime, but you can be sure I never will again.
Shame on you Tea Partiers – are you so naive that you do not see how you are being used by these Bros. in trying to eliminate all the protections that were put in place to protect all of us, you included? The Bros. only want you to help them do more destruction but at a cheaper price for them. Do you not need clean water and air to survive like all of humanity? Don’t you care about your children & their children and the future you may be giving them to inherit? You & I are lucky to be able to enjoy some beauty in our country, but if you allow people like the Bros. to eliminate all the protective agencies created for our good, then the future heirs will surely condemn & damn us for our lack of foresight & caring. All you have to do is look at the destitute poorer countries and see what the USA’s future can be if you allow people like the Koch Bros to have their way.
Do you union Republicans really think they care about you & your concerns? Wake up and smell the coffee folks. First, we had Mr. Bush & his cronies create this God awful mess during his 8 years. It’s going to take longer than a year or two to fix it and Barack Obama did not create it – he inherited it. Oh by the way, I’m a white 71 yr old female independent voter.
Have any of you tried to live without an income and pay your bills? That’s what the Republicans expect when they do not allow taxes to be collected. Us poor & middle class folks can’t carry the load alone anymore – we have given and don’t have any more to give – but you know what – we will find a way to give more just like we always do. So it’s time for the wealthy to start paying their way.
It really is a shame that there aren’t more people like Bill & Melinda Gates who share their wealth. The Koch Bros. sure have enough to give up some and do some good – but they only seem to look to find a way to destroy the good around us. I hope & pray that enough people see the evil behind these 2 men and help curb their works. If we can hurt their profit line – good for you and good for us.

If we, as Americans, don’t gain our voice I truly fear for the survival of the United States. The Kochs’ have decided that they and a few of their close friends including Gov. Perry can buy the White House, and take us back to a time when those of us of color ‘knew our place’. Their opinion is, How dare a man of color run and win the presidency! Wake up people, we need to hit the streets in force and boycott any and all products produced by the Kochs’ companies. Hatred and racism is becoming unbearable in the United States and those who continue to ‘bait the bear’ will find that people aren’t stupid and they will finally rise up and stamp these ‘midget’ men out. Congress has allowed them and others of their ilk too much power.
Jeff says
The Koch brothers are absolutely disgusting! They should be run out of the country. They are against the interests of the American people and should no longer be welcome here!
nikesq says
These big money monopolists and oligarchs are destroying our country and want to kill our democracy by buying it, and thanks to their buddies on the court they are in the position to do just that. The demise of democracy will come at the hand of the poor people who are hoodwinked by these fat b*st*rds who push their hot buttons of racism, sexism, and God. Too many of the rational, thinking folks have concluded that Obama cannot get us out of this slump, forgetting that the Reps of the Koch Bros. in Congress have had one single-minded goal – defeat Obama, block everything he wants to accomplish. We need to realize that the Reps are the cause of our failure to recover from the effects of their policies, not the solution. We need to show the T baggers what a real populist movement looks like.
Mary says
Thanks for the list of Koch products to boycott but we also need help identifying the candidates the Koch Bros. are supporting and suggestions on how to work together to defeat them. We need to demonstrate that their money cannot buy our country.
george says
we need 10% taxes from everyone income taxes that is. this will shut down the basterds

These brothers need more national exposure as to their quest for control of America under their silent dictatorship. Why is this not being discussed everyday on national TV? We must never allow our great country to fall into the hands of this kind of enemy.
Bob Dunbar says
I was wondering if anyone was making a stand against the crazy environmental regulators who are destroying our society. Thanks for the info so I can help support their fight for reason by buying their products. I pray folks like Al Gore, etc are forced to answer for their actions, rather than letting them get by with non-answering insults, snobbery, and evasion of evidence they want to deny and bury. We need to use American coal, shale, oil drilling, and keep working to find economical new technology that makes Saudi oil worthless.
Lietuva says
I’m impressed with this family. I think we should support them as much as we can to defeat Soros and his incompetent puppet government.

I love these guys, as long as they’re not in bed with the Dems or the Repub. I gotta say I’m jealous of them just like the rest of you. But I don’t begrudge them prosperity. For those of you who boycott, who are you going to buy from. Do your research. Don’t be a sheep. Entrepenuers are what made this country great, not entitlement programs.

We should only let Warren Buffet and Obama tell us what to do.

How could you possibly be ‘jealous’ or ‘impressed’ by these two bloated brothers whose father started them off? They have no sense of doing right by the environment. They are thieves of your grandchildren’s health and planet.
There are many a company out there producing sustainable goods and thank goodness for them! Put your money in the future not in the death of the planet.

I cannot thank you enough for letting me know of the products produced by these in-bred thugs in suits.
I am so thrilled that I use so few of the Koch Brothers’ products. The ones I did not know of, that I use, will now no longer be used.

Reading this list makes it more clear why the Koch’s oppose clean environmental progress. I am still amazed at the number of people who buy the Koch’s self-serving line that clean environmental legislation is bad for the country. People, ever hear of ‘Penny-wise and pound foolish?’ If you are manipulated to believe their nonsense, you are just giving into their greed at the expense – and I mean that literally – of your children’s and grandchildren’s future. The hole in the ozone is bigger than ever, large ice shelves have melted allowing frigid air to dip far south in the US giving us horrible winters and horrible summers. Food crops are already affected negatively around the world. The Koch’s have the money to change this but they obviously are too greedy. And small-minded people vote for the Koch’s slate because they just buy the party line.
Dave says
Hello,
You have published good information on Koch products. I also see you are green friendly. Nice going. Can you suggest acceptable alternatives for individual Koch products to BUYcott. I have a blog post on the boycott/BUYcott. I believe people want to know where to spend their money while they are boycotting a business. See https://rewardandconsent.blogspot.com/2011/10/buycott-good-corporations-while.html

I’m ashamed that I unknowingly bought these products before. I will not buy them again.
Koch Industries is the modern day miafa of us business. They are buying and paying off politicians to be their spokespeople. Shame on us US Citizens to allow this to happen.
Boycott Koch. Hit them where it hurts.. . and to those idiots working for them. Get out and stop being brainwashed.

Soros has bought a president, bought most of the news media, bought NPR, bought and sold countries, is trying to buy the USA. Soros is supporting this web site, and the flawed research in an attempt to destroy the Kock brothers. Yes, you have the choice in purchasing, however, with Soros, you have no choices. You should spend your time reading, learning, and understanding his plans for you, for your family, and for your country. Stop being sheep to the next, and the next, and the next liberal target. Liberals target and destroy any obstacle in their path. You are the sheep they enlist to do their dirty work.
Irene Peduto says
I am grateful that the Koch Brothers understand the world we live in & help the cause to stop the spread of socialism here in the USA. The EPA is so powerful that it prevents much more than it helps. The PC crowd is so indoctrinated with what they believe to be compassion that they can’t ever understand our need to have the Koch Brothers take their stand. I, for one, applaud them.
Inspiration Green says
Dear Bruiser, I do not know where your fears come from and cannot understand them. I can assure you though that nobody has contributed a dime to this website. I am afraid your Soros fears might be a bit exaggerated. Dear Irene, I do feel the Koch Brothers have an ‘understanding’ of how to ‘make money’ by plundering our natural resources. I am not saying the EPA is perfect, but if that arm did not monitor, certainly many corporations concerned more for profit than long term health, would poison us and this beautiful finite planet just to line their pockets. Of course there are some good characters out there, but there are selfish/ignorant ones as well.
Eyes Opened says
First, Grandma Anne I agree with your whole post. The Koch bothers are destroyers. They don’t care about the country the live in and they aren’t doing anything to help the country they live in. Maybe if they put their BILLIONS into AMERICA they might do some good. Of course, why would they think about doing that when all they CARE ABOUT is themselves. They don’t care about the average american. Sadly there is no way to stop the Koch brothers since anyone who speaks up against them won’t be heard. To anyone that SUPPORTS the destroyers I hope that one day you will see just how used you are being. I won’t hold my breath though…

Lets see Soros and all of his Liberal, Socialist, Maxist crap, ensuring that we become Iran, Russia, Communist or Koch Brothers. I find it hilarious that all the pro-KochBros commenters can’t even be arsed to use proper punctuation and grammar–thus making themselves look like (let’s be honest here) dimwitted, lazy buffoons with a collective IQ just below that of a La-Z-Boy.
And don’t get me started on folks like ‘Sandi’, who apparently doesn’t know what ‘Socialism’ actually is–Sandi dear, I do hope you don’t go on Social Security or Medicare when you retire. After all, those are Socialist-style programs. Perhaps it would do you good to pick up a dictionary?
The idiocracy is upon us, and folks like Sandi, Randy kendrick(sic), and Thinker are only serving as proof of what happens when a nation decides education is no longer important.

Maybe Sandi and the Thinker are also billionares so that is why they think like they do. That is the only explanation.
If they are ordinary middle class people it is beyond me that they would want people like the Koch brothers to have so much control. I want to have my vote count. Looks like the ‘Occupy Wallstreet’ people are leading the way, boycotting hygene products. Can we say ‘Shallow-minded Hypocrites’??? And to think, some of these brainiacs even vote! Good grief…

I will never understand how normal American working class people can be so supportive of the agenda of billionaires who stack the deck against them. They are the proverbial fox guarding the hen house.
Please understand, Fox news and Rush Limbaugh do not count as research. Stop the flow for a bit. Give it a week so the rhetoric can stop ringing in your ears. You will soon understand that you are not on the Koch Christmas list.

I’ve read The Bilderberg Group, Fixing America and many other related books and I never heard of Koch. Thanks for the information. I am also going to boycott these products. People may be waking up, finally!
