The refineries produce a wide range of transportation fuels for motorists, truckers and the airline industry. In the olefins plants, the company processes natural gas liquids into ethylene and propylene. In the polymers plants, those two products are processed into various forms of olypropylene, which are key ingredients in products such as consumer and healthcare products, packaging and other plastic products. In the aromatics plant, products produced during the crude oil refining process become xylenes, cumenes and other light products. Those products are the building blocks for many other chemicals and plastics.” Source: fhrstage.fhr.com/ehs/certifications.aspx

According to the International Forum on Globalization, Charles and David Koch are America’s single largest source of private money for attacks against environmental protections. They have spent over $643 million to block or rollback legal protections for clean air, clean energy, clean water, and other environmental issues through sketchy scientific research, lobbying lawmakers, contributing to electoral candidates’ campaigns, media manipulation, etc. Source: kochcash
Petroleum coke (a byproduct of tar sands refining) has been irritating numerous residents in both Chicago and Detroit. Koch Carbon is storing enormous quantities of petroleum coke on the banks of Chicago’s Calumet River and Michigan’s Detroit River. The ever growing piles await processing, but refineries cannot keep up with the quantity. Source: thinkprogress
A routine aerial inspection found Koch Pipeline Co. spilled 400 gallons of crude oil in Texas in late October, 2013.
Environmental Charges Against Koch
November, 2014: the city of North Pole, Alaska filed suit against refinery owner Flint Hills Alaska Resources: “During the times that the defendants owned or operated the refinery, the defendants caused or allowed numerous and/or continuous releases of hazardous substances into the groundwater located beneath the refinery, and failed to contain or remediate the hazardous substances,” the lawsuit states. “Ultimately, these hazardous substances have migrated off the refinery property and have contaminated the groundwater down gradient of the refinery and within the city, including wells owned by the city and supplying drinking water to the city’s inhabitants. The presence of sulfolane contamination in the city’s groundwater has rendered that groundwater unfit for human consumption and endangers the public health or welfare, or fish, animals, vegetation or any other part of the natural habitat in which it is found,” the lawsuit states. Source: newsminer.com
December 2006: Flint Hill Resources fined nearly $16,000 by the EPA for 10 separate violations of the Clean Air Act at its Alaska oil refinery facilities, and required to spend another $60,000 on safety equipment needed to help prevent future violations. yosemite.epa.gov
May 2001: Koch Industries paid $25 million to the federal government to settle the federal lawsuit that found the company had improperly taken more oil than it had paid for from federal and Indian land. A federal jury found that Koch Industries had stolen oil from government and American Indian lands and had lied about its purchases more than 24,000 times. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries
September 2000: A federal grand jury in Corpus Christi, Texas returned a 97-count indictment against Koch Industries Inc., Koch Petroleum Group for violating federal clean air and hazardous waste laws, due to the release of at least 91 metric tons of uncontrolled, untreated carcinogenic benzene. In April 2001, the company reached a $20 million settlement in exchange for admitting to covering up environmental violations at its refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Source: justice.gov
March 2000: Koch petroleum which operates a refinery in Rosemount, Minn., was sentenced to pay a $6 million criminal fine and pay an additional $2 million in remediation costs. This is the largest federal environmental fine ever paid in Minnesota. Koch admitted that it negligently discharged 200,000 – 600,000 gallons of aviation fuel into a wetland and an adjoining waterway. In addition, their way of recovering the fuel (a year and a half later) destroyed a portion of the surrounding ecosystem and wildlife habitat. In a separate offense, Koch dumped a million gallons of wastewater with high ammonia content on the ground between November 1996 and March 1997 and also increased its flow of wastewater into the Mississippi River on weekends when no one monitored discharges. These actions allowed Koch to circumvent the weekly monitoring and reporting requirements of its wastewater discharge permit. The case was investigated by EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and was prosecuted by the U. S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota. January 2000: Koch Pipeline agreed to a $35 million settlement with the U.S. Justice Department and the State of Texas as fines for the firm’s three hundred oil spills (300 million gallons) in Texas and five other states going back to 1990. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries
August 1996: Koch’s Sterling butane pipeline had a leak in Lively, Texas, on August 24, 1996. Two teenagers on the way to report the leak drove into the unseen butane cloud, and were killed when the gas exploded and burned. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded that severe external pipeline corrosion was the cause of the failure. Source: wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries

Koch Brothers Oppose Electric Cars
This report from the show The Young Turks explains that the Koch Brothers are backing a new organization trying to stop the rising tide of electric vehicle adoption. This would hurt petroleum producers like the Koch Brothers. The group is likely to run ads attacking the subsidies given to electric cars.

NO WONDER THEY ( THE KOCH BROTHERS) ARE SO TWISTED. THEIR FATHER BELIEVED:
He claimed that the Democratic and Republican Parties were infiltrated by the Communist Party, and he supported Mussolini’s suppression of communists. He wrote that ‘The colored man looms large in the Communist plan to take over America,’ and that public welfare was a secret plot to attract rural blacks and Puerto Ricans to Eastern cities to vote for Communist causes and ‘getting a vicious race war started.’[16]

Why not boycott the Supermarkets and Hardware stores that carry Koch products.
Boycott Kroger, Home Depot, and Lowe’s for example.
You can also buy generic rather than Georgia-pacific brands. Buy generic paper towels rather than Brawny for example.
Elaine Sisung says
Soon they will cover the land with oil leaks that each state, not their company, will have to bear the brunt of the cost to clean up. Soon they will contaminate the air and the waters of our country but they will remain rich. Imagine if men like this cared about protecting the environment, how wonderfully their money could be used for development and preservation of what is healthy. These are not good men. They are, what republicans would consider, good businessmen.
Sandra Brady says
I knew they owned a lot of companies, but I had no idea that they do indeed ‘own America’ and they have bought Congress, and through their ‘non-profit’ ALEC they now write the laws. I guess they really are the rulers of America and will soon proclaim their ownership. They are controlling the Supreme Court, The House and Senate, states especially Wisconsin with Walker doing their every command. This came about because over the past 30 years Congress has completely nullified the push in the 60’s to control monopolies. Now we see just how vital that was and I fear it is too late to do anything about these ‘owners of America’.
Maybe emigrate to a more ‘civilized’ country!
Woody says
I’ve worked for several chemical companies over the years, and Koch Industries was the most aggressive in enforcing environmental compliance. I saw 2 individuals with 50 years experience in the company fired on the spot merely because they disagreed with a certain policy. In any industrial endeavor there’s going to be some mishaps, but I can assure you with Koch it isn’t because of a lack of compliance.
Carson says
First, I want to thank Inspiration Green for all the work you have done to inform us of the magnitude of treachery the kochs have eviscerated, and are still eviserating, our Nation.
I have uncovered some info myself. I have found that the one and only reason Chuck & Dave (the hottest bags of monkey scat on Earth) are in terror of ACA is: each and every person that lives, or lived, in areas where their products are produced, have been used or are presently used, will now have the ability to go to doctors with pre-existing conditions.
The fallout is shredding them. They are like wounded animals forced into a small space terrorized by the person on the other end of the whip, cowering them. As well they should!
It is certain that when a multitude of certain illnesses, determined to be concentrated in all the places owned and operated by the kochboys, the CDC, EPA, OSHA & every medical university on the planet will converge on the areas and tear the company apart. As well they should!
This is why the boys are spending themselves into the poorhouse trying to get ACA killed and buried so far underground it will never see the light of day, for eternity.
I think these cowards have underestimated those of us with I.Q.s over 80 and our ability to make our country healthy and happy again. And I know they didn’t see the Pope coming out and biting their nasty old asses! Bonus!

Please don’t use lobby money in DC as a barometer of just causes. Long live the Koch Brothers and their promotion of commerce and working within the parameters of our legal system. All they do is create opportunities for other people to live well, pay taxes and contribute, not suck resources. I’m looking to transfer my work skills to one of their corporations now just to continue the good work that they do and services that they provide.

I am a Hispanic independent male & I just read this article with no political bias & in my opinion the Koch brothers are an AWESOME story. They are living the American dream, the dream we all want but can’t achieve. I do not hate them but have the highest respect for them because like the parable of the talents in the Holy Bible, they took the talents that were given them and greatly multiplied them just the way God instructs us to do in the Bible. I love the Koch brothers and their story they are AWESOME!!!!

The pollution is just one of the many reasons to boycott these jerk’s products! They are responsible for the Citizen’s United law that is going to end our Democracy if it is not repealed. Has it ever occurred to any of you who oppose capitalism that the Koch Brothers provide hundreds of thousands of jobs in this country? I, for one, will continue to buy their products. The Koch brothers are a great American story and success. If you don’t want people to be successful in this country, I suggest you move to Venezuela!
Richard says
Reading a lot of comments on here, it sounds as if half the people would be happy to give their personal freedoms as citizens just to have a job. Corporations aren’t people. Regardless if they employ thousands of people or not, they shouldn’t be playing politics. The Koch Brothers don’t care about any of you UNLESS you help improve their bottom line. It’s all about money for them, and they are interfering with our political system to make more.
All men were created equal, so we should all get an equal say in how our government runs. Now the Koch Brothers have made it legal for them to pressure you in political affiliations and in how you vote. Your vote should count equally to theirs, but since you’re not a billionaire, it doesn’t.
Wake up, people. We are heading toward a monarchy system where the rich decide everything, and we are slaves. This isn’t capitalism within a democracy. No citizen within a republic that wasn’t elected by the people should have that much say and power with how the government runs.
They are taking your freedom from you, and you’re so blind you are defending them.

This is a case of ‘they didn’t built that’. They inherited much of this from their father. They didn’t create it, he did. They are building on what he did, and expanding it, and trying to control our political process as well. Entitled and arrogant, immoral and mercenary. It is a game for them. We are becoming the United States of Koch.
Helen says
The Koch brothers are tied for public enemy #1. They are destroying our democracy, our economy, our land, our water, our freedom. They should be tried for crimes against humanity. I can’t believe that the politicians are so far up Charles’ and David’s butts, that they are willing to sell out our nation. Further, I can’t believe that US citizens don’t get it enough to wage major nationwide rebellion against this.

What strikes me strange is they actually are front and center. Usually thr filthy rich controlling types to it secretly. There must be a belief that the people don’t care anymore and therefore it doesn’t have to be hidden.

Koch Industries has more integrity than anyone on Capitol Hill. Do a little research on the business model and you will see that it makes sense. The same elements that create a successful society, create a successful company. All disclosure, I am employed by a Koch company and have never worked for a more honorable company. They were the only, and I repeat, the only producer of ethanol in the US to oppose continuation of ethanol subsidies. Boycott all you desire, but I for one will continue to support products that provide value to my family and my community.
Samantha Jones says
I will continue to buy their products. I believe they have reached their financial position thru’ hard work and persistence. They have created millions of jobs in this country. Just because they are anti-union, the unions have sent word around to the workers to boycott their products. The unions themselves need to be audited. I do not believe they work towards the good of the union people.

Having spent most of my life in MN I was sickened to read about Koch Brothers pollution of MN wetlands. Boycotting my TP brand won’t make any difference to the KB, but it will make me feel better. In this country money equates to power. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The KB have chosen to absolutely corrupt our political system by trying to buy elections. My little bitty voice says, ‘not with my money you won’t.’
Kristine Blanco-Hallman says
Jeepers lady. You think we need a certain brand of paper towels to survive? Take the blinders off. These greedy power mongers are fighting with all their billions to make sure the minimum wage is not increased, to hide their many, many environmental illegal activities, and to take away our basic freedoms. Do yourself a favor. Read up on them. Just type in ‘what’s the worst thing the Koch Brothers have done’ and then get ready for the ride. It aint pretty.
Sonja says
Now the evil KB are trying to make it ILLEGAL to label foods in the class of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) as such. They are using their money to get legislation passed making it ILLEGAL to inform the consumer they are buying a GMO product.
From Tom Colicchio:
‘A war on your right to know what’s in your food is coming straight to your kitchen table — courtesy of Monsanto and the Koch Brothers.
New legislation introduced by Representative Mike Pompeo – whose #1 political contributor is the Koch Brothers — aims to prevent labeling of genetically engineered (GE) food. More than two dozen states have GMO labeling bills pending this year, but this legislation would preempt states from passing any of these bills.
The bill is so dangerous that we’ve dubbed it the DARK Act — ‘Deny American’s Right to Know’ — because that’s exactly what Monsanto and the Koch Brothers are trying to do by keeping your food ingredients secret.’
Craig Hearn says
Calling out the abuses and intents of powerful sources is the responsibility of everyone regardless of political affiliation or belief.
I am for GMO labelling and have no concept of how anyone could be against it, other than the obvious ‘external’ and base motivations.,
Yet I can’t seem to find the like coverage devoted to Buffet or Soros interests and machinations that I do the Koch brothers. Recently the Left has adopted the name Koch as their current code word for their knee-jerk ‘Devil Incarnate’ campaign. Seemingly ignoring other major movers and shakers working their will through the age old persuasions.
Such as the leftist Billionaire that recently openly made a specific demand with $100 million attached to it!
We have a serious issue before we actually get to the issues! Political bias!!! I have read several of the comments below and it is quite clear that many follow where they are lead by their chosen and protected masters, yet condemn others that do the same.
Our current level of modern conveniences enables nearly, literally everyone to have access to every shred of man’s history and knowledge and yet we have as many as ever that follow and swallow what has been proven time and time and time again to be myth. Progressive taxes, raising the minimum wage, Keynesian style economics, left always over right, right always over left, man made climate change etc, etc, etc.
Right is right and wrong is wrong absolutely regardless of from which side the offense stems or from whom it is supported.
GMO labeling is among the absolute no brainers!! Therefore, whether it’s the Koch’s or Obama himself, anyone moving to deny us the most basic right of knowing what we are eating is the enemy. Any bias of the slightest amount for any reason in calling out all enemies of the people in every issue is unacceptable and counterproductive.
Our fights to protect ourselves from those man has always had to protect himself from in his societies is seriously handicapped by those that follow a primary flag of one group over or versus another.
As such, if you are still of the belief that man made global warming is real, that raising the minimum wage is a positive, that gays should not have the right to marry, or that both parties currently populating our federal government are not both seriously out of control and moving in the same direction and against us, you are the problem before the problem.

For those of you who are supportive to the Koch bros, all I ask is look your children in the eyes and imagine the world they will live in, when the toxicity in food and environment become overwhelming and reconsider the impact of the Koch bro’s on them. Also, if your employed by them, at some point you will not be and hopefully it will not be because they decide to relocate your position or location, however, they will drop you in a minute. You do not really have the value you think you think you have. For them its all about the money.

Those of you who hate the Koch brothers might want to take the planks out of your own eyes regarding their alleged political clout. This planet is not dying because of ‘global warming,’ it’s dying because of people like you who believe all things evil, subscribe to all things evil, and fight all things of God Almighty. BTW, how come it’s okay for Soros to buy America, for the dems to buy America, for Wall Street to put Obama in the WH (illegally, of course) (See ‘Obama’s Money Cartel,’ by Pam Marsten), and okay to slaughter over 50-million human beings in the womb? Why do you join the hate crowd against those who are liberterian, which the Koch brothers are? I think you are all suffering from Oikophobia–a hatred of America as founded; and if that’s the mental disorder suffered by all of you, then please relocate to a country that will suit your worldviews and ideologies because, quite frankly, you are a sickening and disgraceful lot of pond scum.

Corporate tyranny is here. Democracy doesn’t exist in America anymore. Mostly because of capitalist greed run rampant. Any common sense argument, such as protecting the environment, is vehemently opposed by those whose profits will be restricted by such measures. The Koch brothers are just an example, albeit a most pronounced one. Sociopaths all of them. And the dumb sheep who don’t mind being shorn, such as Ms. Jacobs, are spoon fed ‘libertarian’ and other right wing lies by talk radio to the point that where they’re up to their noses in feces, they still smell roses. The rich greed heads wring their hands with delight at the ignorance of the masses. America, missy, was founded on the beliefs of freedom for everyone. The Koch brothers, et al. only want the freedoms to encompass the upper wealthy class and by any means necessary, most markedly such as buying off our government by grossly overfunding campaign funds, right wing think tanks, lobbying, you name it, they do it. Anything to swing political favor towards feeding their grossly overbloated bellies and behinds. When the revolution comes, and it will, they and their kind will swing from the ropes for their crimes against humanity. And the stupid sheep who followed and supported them will then be asked to leave the country – for they’re the ones who are most against freedom. Get smart, stay educated (Koch brothers lobby heavily against public schools too), don’t become the sheep led by the nose and fight with the people to gain our freedom and democracy back from the plutocrats.

KO2CH = Potassium Formate. May cause irritation of respiratory tract. May cause allergic skin reaction. Avoid contact with eyes. Harmful if swallowed, especially hook, line, and sinker. If allowed to dump in waterways, will cause H2 woes.

Does and Koch company manufacture Sams Club Members Mark bath tissue? Can’t find answer anywhere! (Sams website/phone # useless). I already stopped using Quilted northern-and if the Sams tp is also a Koch product, will stop using that also. Thanks.

Do not shop with companies that focus only on profit and show they are not concerned about the people.

Last weekend I went to see this film at a moveon.org party and it was both enlightening and frightening. These guys are just buying America a politician at a time but are poisoning us. Murderers all.
