The city code doesn’t appear to explicitly outlaw chickens, but it just says you can’t keep any animal that becomes a “public nuisance.” And nuisance is defined there as “…annoying noise or odor, causing detriment to the health, safety and welfare of neighboring persons and properties…kept in such manner as to be nauseous, foul or offensive.”

Additional Information 5.30.010 – Keeping of chickens.
A. The intent of this section is to establish standards for the keeping of chickens in a manner which will not endanger the health, peace and safety of the citizens of the city and which will assure that chickens are kept in a clean and sanitary condition and not subjected to suffering, cruelty or abuse.
B. Chickens are permitted to be kept and maintained only at single-family dwellings in the city as accessory uses, in accordance with applicable city regulations pertaining to animals, and subject to the following requirements:
1. No more than four chickens are allowed at each such single-family dwelling.
2. Male chickens over four months old are not allowed.
3. Chickens shall be kept in a well-ventilated, enclosed coop constructed to protect the chickens against varying
weather conditions and predators. The coop shall have an attached, enclosed run. The coop and run combined shall provide a minimum of 10 square feet of ground space per chicken.
4. All coops and runs shall be located within a rear yard only. Coops shall be at least 25 feet from any neighboring dwelling and 10 feet from any property line. No portion of any run shall be within 10 feet of any property line unless the property line abuts an alley.
5. All coops and runs shall be kept in a neat, sanitary, dust-free condition and must be cleaned on a regular basis so as to prevent offensive odors.
C. Any person who violates any provision of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 civil infraction. [Ord. 4538 § 2, 2009.]”

“17.36.040 Special conditions.
Special conditions in the R district are as follows:
(1) Animals shall be permitted are as follows:
(A) Horses, ponies, mules and cows, provided there is twenty thousand
square feet of land for each animal;
(B) Sheep, goats, pigs and similar animals, provided there is ten
thousand square feet of land for each animal;
(C) Gnawing animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and
nutria; and fowl such as chickens, ducks and geese incidental to the
premises, provided such animals are within suitable enclosures at
least ten feet from and behind the on-site dwelling and no closer than
twenty-five feet from any off-site dwelling.
(D) Other animals as provided for under Section 17.44.025.
(2) Structures, pens and grazing areas shall be kept in a clean and
sanitary condition as determined by the health department and no
structures, feeding areas, nor manure piles for larger animals shall

There is no max number of chickens, but you must have at least 2′ sq. per chicken, and your coop can not have more than 2000′ sq. in total. So I guess really, 1000 chickens, but it’s not stated as such.
You must have the coop 10′ off property lines, and 20′ away from residences (neighbors, not your own). If your coop is larger than 200′ sq. or taller than 10′, you may need additional setback.”

“6.08.010 Keeping domestic fowl or livestock within city limits declared nuisance.
The keeping of chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese or other domestic fowl, and the keeping of horses, cattle, swine or other domestic livestock within the corporate limits of the city is declared to be a public nuisance. (Ord. 98 § 1, 1950).
6.08.020 Keeping domestic fowl or livestock declared unlawful. It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to keep such domestic fowl or livestock, including chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, horses, cattle, swine or other domestic fowl or livestock within
corporate limits of the city from and after October 1, 1950. (Ord. 98 § 2, 1950).
6.08.030 Running at large prohibited within Tonasket Municipal Airport.
A. It is hereby declared to be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation owning, or having control of, or keeping any domestic animal to allow the same to run at large within the corporate limits of the Tonasket Municipal Airport property.
B. Any person, firm, or corporation found guilty of violating the provisions of this section shall be subject to the penalties set forth in Chapter 1.08 TMC. (Ord. 524 §§ 1, 2, 1997).

Any person who maintains a chicken, duck or rabbit within the city subject to permit shall provide shelter for the animal(s) in the event of extreme weather conditions; take precautions to ensure that the allowed farm animal is protected from predators; provide appropriate health care, food and water for the animal(s); ensure that they do not cause damage to the property of neighbors or others; or interfere with anyone’s use or enjoyment of property. No property owner shall maintain in excess of six female chickens or ducks of either sex, or rabbits, or combination thereof. No roosters are permitted.“
