Since then, corn subsidies have strongly influenced our food system to the detriment of our health. What’s so bad about corn? It’s not corn kernels in your salad or a corn on the cob with your supper that’s the problem. The problem with corn is that, like soy, there are so many highly processed corn ingredients in our food, like high fructose corn syrup. As the infographic below points out, the average chicken nugget has 37 ingredients, and 30 of them are corn-derived. Ick! The reason that processed corn is such a popular food additive is that it’s cheap, and that’s thanks in no small part to corn subsidies.
